Getting a Green Thumb?

After our trip to Mendocino and acquiring some succulents as well as potting some plants with my aunts, Grandma, and Mom we now have a nice little assortment of plants outside our backdoor. Hopefully they will do well in the full to partial shade that is created by the house and deck and we remember to water them. I really like the pots I picked out for them, they are a lot of fun. My aunts and Grandma say they are “urban,” unlike their “suburban” terracotta pots.

Our three big pots outside the door. From left to right: jade, a mixed pot (heavenly bamboo, impatients, coleus, and lobelia), and aloe.

Beautiful Jade plant given to us by my Aunt Dona. This has to be at least a decade old. We had to break the pot it was in to get it out to replant it since it was so root bound. It should be happy in it’s new red pot with more room to grow.

Aloes. The big one came from Mendocino and the little ones in the square pot are pups that we broke off (trying to maintain the symmetry of the main plant). We’ll see how well they do.

The small round pot is a cutting of the yellow jade (a rare version of jade) from Mendocino because the main plant isn’t doing very well. Griffin thinks it has a fungus of some sort. All I know is it doesn’t look good. The picture below is it about a week ago. Griffin has been pruning off all the leaves that turn black and it has about half of the leaves seen in this picture left now. The spread of the black seems to have been slowed though. Hopefully it makes it. In case it doesn’t Griffin took a cutting and has segregated it outside in the non-fungus zone (where the green jade is). Any advice on jade plant fugus?
